RULES 2024

Membership Fees for 2024 will be £150 payable via bank transfer - no cheques please. If your club can only pay by cheque, make the online transfer yourself and get reimbursed by your club.


Eligibility: 

Players must have amateur status and be a paid up members of a club which is affiliated to the Hertfordshire Golf Union. Players must have an official World Handcap Index. There is no min/max handicap limit in terms of who is eligible to play to be eligible they must be able to enter club board comps, however the maximum playing handicap is set at 10 for the purpose of calculating shots off the lowest playing handicap in the 4 ball. (Max CH 10 )

Competitors belonging to more than one Club in Hertfordshire may only play for one Club (not necessarily their Home Club) during the season.

Matches to be played over 18 holes from the Competition Tees (No longer has to be stones/discs it is up to home capt.) and to be arranged by mutual agreement on a week day per the published monthly schedule.

Format to be 4 Ball Better Ball Match Play off playing handicap with a stroke allowance of 90% off course handicap difference. No substitutes will be allowed once the games have commenced.

All games to be played according to R & A Rules/England Golf/CONGU handicap system, however Range Finders/GPS may be used

The matches will be contested by five pairs both cup and league, but if a team are one or two short they can put out a single against a pair. If the team does not have a full team the match still goes ahead. 

The results shall be scored as follows:  

         Game Points (GP) 1 point for each game won, ½ point for each game halved 

         Match Points (MP) 3 points for the overall winner of the match, 1.5 point each for a half.


Bengal Winners, Sumatran winners, Siberian Winners will all go through to the semi final,  The lowest points winner will play away to the 2nd highest. 

The best 2 runners up will play a play off for the semi final and will then play away to the winner of the league with the most points.


If at the end of the season two or more teams have the same number of Total points, then match points will be the decider.  In the event that match points are the same then the sum of the game points of the matches between the two teams will be used as a tie break. It will then go to the result of the last game between the two teams. 


Abandoned matches due to the course being closed will be replayed dates to be arranged permission must be sought from Bryan WAPPAT (course must be closed). Except if ALL 5 games have completed 9 holes when the match is abandoned, then scoring as below.

If all 5 games have played 9 holes when a match is abandoned, the score at the end of the 9th hole will determine the result of any matches not concluded, regardless of the outcome of the scores on the back 9.

All games will be played even if a team cannot get 10 players. 

Cup Final and League final will all be played on finals day, even if the same team is in both finals.

All match results to be returned via whats app to Bryan WAPPAT league will be kept on website.

No Buggies are permitted(except for medical/injury situations, no other competitor may ride on the buggy).

The Home Club to provide courtesy of  the course, the cost of the £15pp post match 'hot' meal is to be split between the 2 clubs. Format of the meal (i.e. set team dinner or rolling meal by 4 Ball) at the discretion of the home captain.

Cup matches if the result is a draw the away club goes through to the next round.


On finals day or semi finals match if a game is a draw captain selects a pair to play sudden death play off.
